My Why. My Story.
Why I Created GoMicroFresh and the MicroGrow™
I’m Tom, founder of GoMicroFresh and creator of the MicroGrow™.
But the story behind GoMicroFresh didn’t begin with a product.
It began with my health, my family, and a realization that I needed to change the way I was living.
When My Health Started Catching Up With Me
For most of my life, I was fortunate. I stayed in pretty good shape, I loved food, and I could pretty much eat whatever I wanted without thinking too much about it.
I love eating with family and friends. Food has always been about more than nutrition to me—it’s about sharing, laughing, celebrating, and enjoying life together.
And for a long time, I got away with some not-so-great eating habits.
Good genes helped. Thank you, Mom.
But when I reached my 50s, things began to change.
My weight climbed to around 265 pounds. My blood sugar was becoming a concern, and I found myself constantly checking it. I had my hip replaced. My energy wasn't what it used to be.
My body was telling me something.
The habits I had gotten away with for decades were finally catching up with me.
I knew I needed to make a change.
I Didn't Want Another Diet. I Wanted Better Habits.
Like a lot of people, I didn't want to spend the rest of my life jumping from one diet to another.
I wanted something sustainable.
Something I could actually make part of my everyday life.
And I realized that eating better didn't necessarily have to mean completely changing everything I enjoyed about food.
What if I could simply add more nutrition to the meals I was already eating?
That idea eventually led me to microgreens.
Then I Discovered Microgreens 🌱
The more I learned about microgreens, the more fascinated I became.
These tiny greens are harvested at a very young stage of plant growth, yet research has found that some varieties can contain several times—and in some cases up to around 40 times—the concentration of certain vitamins and antioxidants found in their mature counterparts.
I remember thinking:
Why isn't everybody eating these?
They were fresh. Delicious. Colorful. Easy to add to foods I already loved.
Eggs. Salads. Sandwiches. Soups. Tacos. Smoothies. Dinner.
You don't have to completely reinvent your diet.
Just grab some fresh microgreens and sprinkle them on.
That was the kind of healthy habit I could see myself sticking with.
But there was a problem.
Why Are Microgreens So Expensive?
Buying fresh microgreens regularly can get expensive.
And because they're highly perishable, you're often buying them on someone else's schedule—not necessarily when you're ready to eat them.
I thought there had to be a better way.
What if people could grow their own microgreens right on their kitchen counter?
No garden.
No green thumb.
No complicated equipment.
No huge growing trays taking over the kitchen.
Just a beautiful, simple system that could become part of someone's home—and part of their routine.
That idea became the MicroGrow™.
The MicroGrow™ Was Built Around One Simple Idea
I wanted growing fresh food at home to feel easy.
With the MicroGrow™, you can grow fresh microgreens right on your countertop and harvest them in about 7 days.
Grow what you need.
Harvest when you're ready.
Start another batch.
And do it again—all year long.
To me, that's where the real power is.
The MicroGrow isn't really about gardening.
It's about creating a habit.
A simple way to put something fresh and nutrient-dense within arm's reach every day.
My Dream Is Bigger Than Microgreens
We officially launched GoMicroFresh in January 2026.
Seeing MicroGrow systems going into homes across the country has been incredibly meaningful to me.
But I don't measure this dream only by how many MicroGrows we sell.
My dream is to help create a movement around something incredibly simple:
Grow fresh. Eat fresh. Feel great.
I want growing fresh food at home to become as normal as making your morning coffee.
Imagine waking up, walking into your kitchen, seeing fresh greens growing right there on your countertop, snipping off what you need and adding them to breakfast.
Not because somebody told you that you have to eat healthier.
Because it simply became part of your life.
And This Is Personal for Me
My mom passed away in 2010 after battling cancer.
She gave me those good genes I joked about earlier, but she also gave me something much more important—the belief that life is precious and that what we do with the time we're given matters.
As I've gotten older, I've thought about that more and more.
I'm turning 61, and I don't want the next chapter of my life to simply be about building another company.
I want it to mean something.
I believe God put this dream in my heart and gave me my experiences, creativity, struggles, and abilities for a reason.
Maybe all those pieces of my life were preparing me for this.
This Is My Why
My why isn't to convince people that one food or one product is going to magically change their health.
Health doesn't work that way.
My why is much simpler.
I want to help people make one better choice today than they made yesterday.
Add something fresh.
Eat a little better.
Grow something yourself.
Create a habit you can actually keep.
And then do it again tomorrow.
Because I've learned firsthand that eventually our choices catch up with us—the good ones and the bad ones.
If GoMicroFresh can help families make healthier choices a little easier, a little more affordable, and maybe even a little more fun, then we're building something worth building.
We're still at the beginning.
And at 61, I feel like I'm just getting started.
This is my why.
This is my story.
And this is why I created GoMicroFresh and the MicroGrow™.
🌱 Grow Fresh. Feel Great!
