Why Microgreens? Small Greens. Powerful Nutrition. Grown Fresh at Home.
Share
What if some of the freshest, most nutrient-dense food you could eat didn’t have to come from a grocery store?
What if you could grow it right on your countertop—in about 7 days?
That’s the idea behind microgreens.
These tiny greens may be small, but they can deliver bold flavor, vibrant color, valuable plant compounds, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants—all from plants harvested at one of the most exciting stages of growth.
And with MicroGrow™, growing them at home can become a simple weekly ritual.
Seed. Grow. Harvest. Eat. Repeat. 🌱
🌱 What Are Microgreens?
Microgreens are young edible plants harvested shortly after their first leaves develop—typically when they are just 2–3 inches tall.
They’re grown from many of the same seeds that eventually become familiar vegetables and herbs, including:
-
Broccoli
-
Radish
-
Cabbage
-
Kale
-
Kohlrabi
-
Arugula
-
Peas
-
And many more
But instead of waiting weeks or months for a mature vegetable, microgreens are usually harvested in about 7–14 days, depending on the variety.
They're different from sprouts, too.
Sprouts are generally grown without soil or light and eaten seed, root and all. Microgreens are grown in a growing medium, exposed to light, and harvested just above the growing medium after their young leaves emerge.
The result is real, living food with incredible freshness, flavor and versatility.
Why Are Microgreens So Special?
1. 🌿 Remarkable Nutrient Density
One of the most exciting things about microgreens is how much nutrition can be concentrated into such a small plant.
Research has found that nutrient concentrations in microgreens can vary considerably by variety, but some microgreens have contained substantially higher concentrations of certain vitamins and carotenoids than their mature counterparts.
That's why you'll sometimes hear the phrase “up to 40× the nutrients.”
That doesn't mean every microgreen contains 40 times more of every nutrient. It means certain varieties studied have shown dramatically higher concentrations of particular nutrients.
Either way, the takeaway is powerful:
You don't have to eat a mountain of vegetables to add meaningful plant nutrition to your meals.
A handful of fresh microgreens can add vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients to foods you're already eating.
2. 🥦 Broccoli Microgreens: Tiny but Mighty
Broccoli microgreens are one of the most popular varieties—and for good reason.
Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables contain glucosinolates, plant compounds associated with compounds such as sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane has attracted significant scientific interest for its antioxidant and cellular-protective properties.
Instead of waiting for a full head of broccoli to grow, you can grow young broccoli greens right in your kitchen and sprinkle them onto salads, eggs, sandwiches, bowls and smoothies.
Small plant. Big potential.
3. 🌈 Eat More Colors—and More Variety
Different plants contain different nutrients and phytonutrients.
That's why dietary guidance so often encourages us to eat a variety of colorful plant foods.
Growing multiple microgreen varieties makes that incredibly easy.
Purple cabbage. Green broccoli. Peppery radish. Arugula. Kale. Kohlrabi.
Each brings its own flavor, texture and nutritional profile.
Instead of relying on the same vegetables every week, your countertop can become a rotating garden of fresh plant diversity.
4. ⚡ Freshness You Can Actually See
Think about the journey of conventional produce.
It may be harvested, cooled, packaged, transported, stored in a warehouse, transported again, placed on a grocery shelf and eventually brought home.
Microgreens grown at home take a very different journey:
Countertop → Scissors → Plate.
You can harvest exactly what you need, when you need it.
No wondering how long it has been sitting around.
No long supply chain.
Just fresh food growing a few feet from where you eat it.
It's difficult to get fresher than food you harvested seconds ago.
5. 🥗 They Make Healthy Eating Easier
Knowing vegetables are good for you isn't usually the hard part.
Eating them consistently is.
That's where microgreens shine.
You don't need to completely change the way you eat. Simply add them to foods you already enjoy.
Try microgreens on:
-
Eggs and omelets
-
Sandwiches and wraps
-
Salads
-
Avocado toast
-
Tacos
-
Burgers
-
Soups
-
Grain bowls
-
Pasta
-
Pizza
-
Smoothies
-
Chicken or fish
-
Or simply eat a handful fresh
A small daily habit can make it much easier to bring more plants, color and variety into your diet.
🌱 Why Grow Microgreens Instead of Buying Them?
You can certainly buy microgreens at grocery stores and farmers markets.
But growing them yourself changes the experience.
When you grow your own, you control the harvest.
You know when they were planted.
You know how they were grown.
You know exactly when they were harvested.
And because a new crop can be started again and again, fresh greens can become part of your normal routine instead of an occasional grocery-store purchase.
There is also something surprisingly rewarding about watching food grow.
One day you plant tiny seeds.
A few days later, they begin pushing upward.
Then you add light.
And before long, your countertop is filled with a miniature garden ready to harvest.
🏡 You Don't Need a Garden
This may be one of the biggest advantages of microgreens.
You don't need:
A backyard.
Raised beds.
Perfect weather.
A greenhouse.
A green thumb.
You don't even need much room.
Microgreens can be grown indoors throughout the year.
MicroGrow™ was designed around a compact approximately 10" × 10" footprint, making it possible to grow fresh food in kitchens, apartments, condos, RVs and other small spaces.
And because MicroGrow pods can be stacked, you can increase what you're growing without taking over your kitchen counter.
💧 Grow Smarter, Not Bigger
Traditional gardening is wonderful—but not everyone has the land, climate, time or physical ability to maintain a vegetable garden.
Microgreens offer another way.
You're growing the plant only through its young, nutrient-rich stage and harvesting it quickly.
No waiting months for a crop.
No digging.
No weeds.
No outdoor garden required.
With MicroGrow, many varieties can go from seed to harvest in around 7 days.
That means you can harvest fresh greens and immediately start the next crop.
Imagine growing fresh food 52 weeks a year—from one little space in your kitchen.
👨👩👧 Growing Food Changes Your Relationship With Food
There's another benefit that can't be measured on a nutrition label.
You grew it.
For adults, that creates a greater connection to the food we eat.
For children and grandchildren, it can be even more meaningful.
They get to plant the seeds, watch roots develop, see the greens reach for the light and finally harvest something they helped grow.
Growing food becomes an experience.
And healthy eating becomes something you participate in—not simply something you buy.
🌎 Less Packaging. Less Waste. More Fresh Food.
Store-bought microgreens often come in single-use plastic containers.
Growing at home allows you to harvest what you need and start another crop using the same growing system.
The spent coco growing medium and plant roots can also be composted where appropriate.
It's a small shift—but small habits repeated every week can add up.
❤️ The Bigger Idea Behind GoMicroFresh
GoMicroFresh wasn't created simply to sell another kitchen gadget.
We believe people should have an easier way to bring fresh, nutrient-dense food into their everyday lives.
Food you can see growing.
Food you can harvest yourself.
Food that doesn't require acres of farmland—or even a backyard.
MicroGrow™ was designed to make growing microgreens approachable, compact and beautiful enough to become part of your kitchen rather than another gardening project hidden away somewhere.
Because healthy habits are easier to maintain when they're simple, visible and enjoyable.
🌱 Your Own Fresh-Food Cycle
The MicroGrow routine is refreshingly simple:
DAY 1 — SEED
Plant your microgreen seeds in the natural coco growing medium.
DAYS 2–4 — SPROUT
Give the seeds time to germinate and establish their roots.
AROUND DAY 4 — LIGHT
Uncover your young microgreens and let them grow under the MicroGrow LED.
AROUND DAY 7 — HARVEST
When they're ready, cut them fresh and enjoy.
Then?
Plant again.
Seed → Grow → Harvest → Eat → Repeat.
Once you get into the rhythm, you're not simply growing microgreens.
You're creating your own little fresh-food system.
Small Greens Can Create a Big Habit
No single food is a magic solution to health.
Microgreens aren't meant to replace a balanced diet or all of the vegetables you already enjoy.
They're something simpler:
An incredibly easy way to add more fresh plants to your life.
A handful on your eggs.
A pile on your sandwich.
Broccoli greens tossed into your salad.
Peppery radish microgreens on tacos.
A colorful mix added to dinner.
And tomorrow, another handful.
That's where the real opportunity is—not one perfect meal, but making nutritious food easy enough to eat again and again.
